I’m Kari. Author of Alex and John’s Scientific Adventures, former owner of ABCmile LLC, homeowner, MBA holder, and current Accountant.

My story is pretty simple. I’ve always been very entrepreneurial and organizationally driven. This started from the time I was 12 and starting to babysit.

Growing up, I always kept myself extremely busy with work and school.

Once I graduated from high school, I continued to college and the craziness increased. Not long after starting college, I landed a great gig! I was a Mad Scientist! Or well, a Mad Science Instructor. I held this job throughout my college career and it kick started my drive for children, science, and learning. From there, came my book, Alex and John’s Scientific Adventures.

About the same time, some of the venues I was teaching at asked if I could teach any other subjects. From here, I started teaching Microsoft program classes for adults, children’s choir and craft classes, and even a baby music class.

With all of the new work, I decided that the safest option would be for me to open up my very own LLC. There is something so special about owning your own business. You just put your entire heart into it.

Now, all things must come to an end. The end of my business came when I started grad school to get an MBA. What a time commitment that was. Not only was I taking more classes than a general course load, all of my classes were online and I was working 45+ hours per week at random hours of the day at a Ross Store downtown.

I know you’re wondering. How did I go from education and business to retail? Well, I consider myself very fortunate to have landed an Assistant Manager position at Ross and knew that this would be a great stepping stone towards my business success. So while the hours weren’t great and I was on my feet all day, I knew this would be a great opportunity for my highly educated, not so experienced self. I am forever grateful for this opportunity and it has brought some great people into my life.

Sometime around here, when I was just 23 years old, I purchased my first house! Rent was going to increase and I knew that if I stayed within a certain limit, my mortgage wouldn’t be much higher than my rent had been. This has by far been the best decision I have ever made! It has become an investment and has allowed me to do so many fun projects.

So back to where we were, I finished grad school, then ended up having to transfer to a different store and I hated it! Looking back, this must have been a blessing in disguise because an amazing opportunity lined up perfectly for me. I now had just enough experience to convince the company I am currently with that I was a good candidate for their business office position.

So now, I work very close to home, work an amazing schedule of 7:00am-3:30pm, love what I’m doing, and have way more me time. 🙂

And now I find myself here with all this free time and to be truthful, I have a hard time remembering what I’m supposed to do with all my free time. I used to play the piano and guitar often, write songs, sing, and do so many creative things. Since starting grad school, I seem to have misplaced all of my hobbies.

Thus, I started this blog. To not only keep me occupied for hours on end, but to get me back into the hobbies that I once loved because I have to have hobbies in order to create posts right?
