Video Summary

Hey everyone! Today I’m sharing a Target grocery haul where I used my strategy of buying things when they’re on sale rather than when I need them. My cats are super excited because I got them cat food! Everything I bought (except candy which we were completely out of) was on sale. I stocked up on cat food – both dry food, wet food, and treats – taking advantage of a $15 off $100 purchase sale. There was also a deal where you get a $5 gift card when you purchase $25 worth of household supplies, so I grabbed shampoo, conditioner, deodorants, and blackhead clearing scrub (which I absolutely love and have bought probably 10-20 times). I also got candy on sale including Andy’s mints and Ghirardelli Lindor chocolates because we were running low and just wanted real candy, not just the protein candies we have. Since it was my birthday month, I had a 5% off coupon, plus I always get 5% off with my Target Red Card, so I used those extra savings to stock up on pantry staples that rarely go on sale like honey (which I was completely out of), vinegars for canning, rice wine vinegar, mirin (never tried it but figured I’d give it a shot), chili sauce for meatballs, zesty Italian dressing (perfect for summer pasta salads), Korean barbecue sauce (another new one to try), mustards, and salsa verde. I also got Zone Perfect protein bars in the two-pack which is cheaper than buying them individually – the cookie dough ones are my favorite and the s’mores ones are my husband’s favorite. My total order was a little over $200 which is fantastic considering I got protein bars, cat food, and household supplies. I estimate I saved around $70 on this order by shopping the sales, and this is how I typically shop – I’ll spend more for a month or two stocking up, then go several months spending very little because I already have everything we need!

Hey everyone, welcome back. My name is Kari, this is Keep It Simple DIY, and today I have a Target grocery haul for you. I also have some cats who are very excited because they got some nom noms.

So the way that I grocery shop is I like to buy things when they are on sale rather than when I need them. So I like to buy ahead. So everything that I have here, I already had some in the house, except for things like candy, which we didn’t have in the house. But I’ll tell you more about those in a second. Otherwise, everything that I got was on sale. So I buy now and then later we will have everything that we need. So let me show you what I got.

All right, so let’s start over here with the cat food. I got cat food, lickable cat treats, regular cat treats, and the three things of cat food that’s wet. And the reason I got those, I’ve been waiting for a sale and I haven’t seen a sale happen in quite some time. Well, yesterday there was a sale that was $15 off a $100 purchase. So I bought $100 worth of cat food. That’s just this, that is just this bag and then these wet foods. So that was able to get $15 off.

And then down here, the Temptations treats were all on sale. And these, I usually get bigger packages, but the small packages were on sale, so I got those for the kitty cats.

There was also a get a $5 gift card if you purchased $25 worth of household supplies. So I got some shampoo and conditioner for me and my husband. I got quite a few deodorants. I won’t need deodorant for a while. And then I also got blackhead clearing scrub. This actually, I love it. I’ve bought it probably 10, 20 times. Also, that’s not shown here, I did get a four pack of Q-tips. Those won’t be here for a few days, so we’ll just go with that.

And then candy was on sale, Andy’s, and then also the Ghirardelli Lindor. And so I figured, let’s do a little treat, let’s buy it.

I also had a 5% off the entire purchase coupon because my birthday was in the month, and there’s always 5% off with your Target Red Card.

So the Zone Perfect bars, I did not have a coupon for, but they ended up being 10% off with the two different 5% offs that I had. These are our favorites. I really like the cookie dough one and my husband really likes the s’mores one. So this pack makes them a little bit cheaper. Typically they’re $9.99 each and it’s $18.99 for the two pack, and so that saves us a dollar plus the extra that we got off.

And then just because I had the extra percent off, I decided to buy a few of the things that really don’t go on sale. These items are just to add to my pantry for when we need them, other than like honey. I was completely out of honey. I just used the rest of it for some grilled chicken.

But these items, the only sale I’ve ever really seen for them is if there was a grocery order that was like $15 off your grocery order, but I haven’t seen that in a while. So I did get some extra vinegar for mainly canning. I got some rice wine vinegar because I’m running low. I got mirin. You know, I’ve never used mirin, but I figured, you know what, I have some percent off, we’re going to try it.

I bought some chili sauce because it is getting to that time when meatballs would be fun. I got some zesty Italian dressing. This is a very good Italian dressing to put on noodles in the summer, like more of one of those noodle and pepperoni salads with olives and carrots and cheese and onions. I’ve noticed that that one has a great flavor for that particular salad.

I got some Korean barbecue sauce. Never had this before, but figured I’d try it. Good and Gather actually is on sale right now, but you have to go in the store to buy it and only certain things. So like chicken breasts were on sale. I didn’t get any because I didn’t want to go into the store. And if you’re wondering, yep, the cat is still sitting on top of the food. She’s getting tired of waiting.

I got two types of mustard, the honey, and then some salsa verde, just to stock up. Overall, my order was a little over $200, which is fantastic considering I had protein bars and a bunch of cat food.

Can I put that in the closet? Let’s put all this away. Yes, I know. I said we didn’t have candy. We really don’t have much. We have one little chocolate covered cherry. We don’t, basically all the candy that’s left we don’t really like. These are protein candies, which are great, but sometimes we just want the real stuff. So here we go, restocking the candy.

I know you’re thinking, wait, they have Reese’s in there. They don’t like Reese’s? No, we don’t really like Reese’s. You know I don’t. I’m, there’s one for each color option. They don’t like these. He’s going to tell you right now that he does, but they don’t.

You helping? Are you doing me a lot of help? Thank you. Don’t you worry. Oh wait, that’s not helpful anymore.

Okay, these ones go all the way upstairs, so I figure it’s easier to just stick them in a bag. I’ll bring them upstairs next time I go up.

My magic spot where I put everything. All right, all this stuff. Now I need to decide what of these is going in what cabinet. So honey goes in the coffee cabinet, more like drinks cabinet. And then let’s see, we’ll do vinegar in this little extra cabinet. We’ll shove it in there. That’s also where I shoved the extra protein bars. And then I will put the extra, totally extras over here.

All right, these guys are going in my overflow, and then these guys are going in my everyday. So let’s do it. Always got to fight if you have same ingredients.

Last but not least. All right, let’s see what we want to do here. I think I’m going to put the rice vinegar with the wine, and I’ll put the mustards with the mayonnaise. I feel like that fits. Other wine. And the dressing can go with the pickles and the garlic, but I want to be able to see that we have garlic. So there we go.

All right, that was my little grocery haul. It was another fill-in haul. That’s pretty much how I do it. I seem to do a month or two where I have quite a few orders and I spend quite a bit of money, and then I go a month or two or three where I really don’t buy anything. Maybe $50, maybe $100. So that is really helpful when it comes to saving money because I might spend, you know, my average grocery bill a few months and then not have to spend later.

So overall, shopping the sales, it’s amazing. I saved, I didn’t look to see how much I saved, but I think if I say 10% total plus an extra $20 or so, was probably about $70-ish dollars on that order, which included cat food and protein bars and household supplies, which are pretty expensive. So I say we did pretty well.
