Hello everyone! Today I’m taking you around my house as I get things done after a very chaotic two weeks. Our kitten had to have surgery and just got his stitches out yesterday, so I’ve been watching him constantly and the house has really gotten away from me. Now that he’s doing better and can be downstairs without constant supervision, it’s time to get everything back together! I’m starting with my sheets which embarrassingly haven’t been washed in a month – but honestly, during all the craziness this just wasn’t my priority. I’m also tackling spots on the floor from when the cat got sick using Spot Shot (which is absolutely magic – it once turned a 20-year-old Toyota’s interior from gray to blue!). I’m cleaning my vanity mirror that always gets black eyeliner on it, and I discovered that dry toilet paper works way better than a microfiber cloth for that. I’m using my favorite Sprayway glass cleaner which has a strong scent but works amazingly well with no streaks. I make sure to keep toilet lids closed after cleaning until they’ve been flushed a few times since my cats like to drink from the toilet. I’m also doing all the laundry, washing dishes, and even showing you my plants that I’m hardening off outside – though they’ve seen better days since they became my last priority during the kitten recovery. Every little thing I clean brings me closer to feeling back to normal, and even though cleaning kind of sucks, having a clean house feels amazing!

Hello everyone, welcome back. I’m Kari and this is Keep It Simple DIY, and today I am going to be bringing you around my house as I get things done. We are now two weeks out from our kitten having to have surgery. He got his stitches out yesterday, and I’m kind of feeling like, all right, it’s time to get the house back together. He can be downstairs. I don’t have to worry too much about watching him. And so that’s what I’m doing. I’m going to try to pick everything back up.
I picked up the kitchen the other day and the kitchen’s a mess again. So right now, of course, I am getting my sheets done. It’s been embarrassingly too long. I think it’s been a month since we’ve cleaned them, but you know, in all the craziness, this was just not my priority. So that’s what I’m tackling today, first and foremost.
So once I get the sheets in the washing machine, I do have a few spots on my floor from when the cat got sick that I still haven’t cleaned up. So that is something I want to tackle right away. Come on.
All right, I got my sheets. I decided to grab my towels as well, just because I know when I do my clothes laundry it’s going to be a full load, so I won’t want to throw my towels in there. And you know, once I got in here, I realized this room’s a little bit of a mess too, so I kind of want to pick this up as well. Okay, start that in just a minute.
And these two things are clean. This here is actually a puppy pee mat that you put down for animals so they don’t use the restroom on the floor. And what I did with this is I put it under a litter box. I put a litter box outside of their normal one so he could get to it. Our other cat peed on it, so I had to wash it. So put this away. And then this is the blanket that we put the kitty, or that was in the cat carrier when we took him to the vet. And so I wanted to get this one washed as well. This yellow one isn’t clean yet. That’s why it’s on top of the washer.
Getting these things done just feels so nice. They, you know, it’s all small things that would take like just a few seconds, but they’ve just been piling up. And I don’t know, it just gets stressful. And then this is the top of the litter box. We still have an extra litter box out right now, just because I don’t want to waste the litter. So once that litter is used up, I will clean the extra one and just go back to normal.
All right, I’m going to go get this towel put away, start the laundry, and then I will start cleaning the floor.
Okay, this poor little kitty of mine was just so sick. I’m so happy he’s feeling better. He doesn’t have his cone on anymore, and so the other cat’s getting along with him. You know, I was looking for Spot Shot when this was all happening. I couldn’t find it. I just went right now to grab cleaner and this is what I grabbed. So apparently I did have it. It was up here.
All right, wish me luck. This has been like two weeks. I should have cleaned it sooner, but better late than never. You know, that actually looks like it’s coming up quite well. Spot Shot is fantastic. A friend of mine from high school and I once took Spot Shot to a Toyota’s interior. The Toyota was, gosh, 20 years old at the time at least, and the interior went from gray to blue. We were shocked. But this stuff works so well.
You know, I can’t even tell where the other spot that I just cleaned was. And you can tell that there’s a little spot here that I didn’t clean. That’s awesome. It’s just magic. All right, let me do a quick double check, make sure I got all the spots, but I think we’re pretty good.
Okay, I’m back at my vanity again and I have more of this black eyeliner. This happens all the time. Do you guys have any suggestions? I’m just gonna clean it. This time I’m going to actually use toilet paper because I had one time in between last time and now, and I just wiped it with some toilet paper and it came off easier. So we’re gonna test it out. Let’s see how it goes.
I’d say it is working pretty well. Yeah, because it took me forever when I did it with the microfiber cloth, and this is just a dry piece of toilet paper. Let me show you how much better this looks with just the toilet paper, dry toilet paper. You can definitely see like some of the stained areas, so I’m gonna take some window cleaner to that. But this looks so much better.
I gotta say, this stuff really is my favorite glass cleaner, the Sprayway. You know, it comes on like, well, I don’t even know how to describe that. It’s not like a spray bottle. Foaming, maybe. But it works so well. It does have a very strong scent, so if you’re wanting to go for minimal chemicals in your house, this is not the way to go. But it works really well. It doesn’t leave streaks and it just, it’s really easy to work with. I feel like everything that I clean, every one thing is bringing me closer and closer to just being back to normal.
I always make sure to close my lids after I clean the toilets, even though I’m going to flush. Flush the toilet, just because I know my cats like to drink out of the toilet and I don’t want them coming anywhere near it when it could still have chemicals in it. So I like to leave it closed until it’s been flushed a few times.
I just found a random black spot on my floor, so I figured I’ll try to get that up with this Spot Shot too. I have no idea what that could be from. The only thing I could think is like the vacuum itself. So let’s see what we can do. It definitely wasn’t from the vacuum today, that’s for sure. Okay, I got a good bit off. I’m gonna put another little bit on. Oh, this is feeling so nice. Not the cleaning part. Cleaning kind of sucks, but having the house be clean, that’s amazing. All right, I think that’s good.
All right, I want to give you a look around to see what is the disaster of our living room and our kitchen. I mean, it’s not too bad right now. It’s just that we have some dishes in our sink. Yeah, that’s about it. We don’t ever sit at our table over there, so we don’t ever have a mess. So let’s get to it.
Look what I just found. I found the instructions. Should we try to do it? Twisted into a figure eight. Oh sorry. My house, your gym. Okay, well, close enough. It’s contained.
I also want to show you that I am hardening off my plants. Some of them have seen better days than others. Do you want to sniff? But the peppers seem to be doing really well. Tomatoes seem to be doing okay. I realistically should have, okay hang on, let me, you stay in. I need to grab the other door. There you go. Realistically, I should have repotted my tomatoes again, and I probably should have continued to water my peas. But when we were watching this little guy to make sure he wasn’t jumping on things, the plants were the last priority of mine.
All right, I think our laundry is done, well at least the wash cycle. So let’s go upstairs and switch it on over there.
All right, the name of the game here is get the dishes done as quickly as possible because I’m kind of at the point where I’m over cleaning.
