Video Summary
Hey everyone! Today I’m just doing a little tidying up around the house – I’ve actually been doing a pretty great job keeping things tidy since our kitten has been feeling a lot better. I’m starting with dishes since the dishwasher is clean and needs emptying, then I’m dealing with all the jars of chicken I canned the other day. Yesterday I took the rings off and double-checked them to see if any didn’t seal, and there were two that didn’t seal (which I’m not surprised about because when I took them out of the canner they kind of exploded a little – not glass exploding, just liquid coming out, which tells me they were a bit too full). Those two went in the fridge and the rest are out here to be cleaned. I like to fill my sink with soapy water and scrub them all with a cloth because they seem to get greasy if anything spilled over on them. I also have leftovers in the fridge from game night that I need to freeze because we won’t be able to eat them all before they go bad. We made a second batch of rolls the day after game night so we’d have extras for ham and cheese rolls, and it’s only been two days but this is all that’s left! I’m putting the pulled pork and sloppy joes in the freezer (labeling them with wet erase marker which comes off easily), keeping the meatballs in the fridge with the leftover cheese mixed in, and there’s just one more serving of potato salad left. I’m labeling the chicken jars with Sharpie after wiping them dry (I’ve learned the hard way that Sharpie doesn’t work on wet jars!), and I’m also drying off the rings because they get rusty if I let them sit with water on them. I’m organizing my pantry with all the chicken jars – it’s definitely not as full as it could be but I have a few other projects in mind. Oh, and remember that weird Walmart grocery haul where they left the bin? Nobody came to pick it up, so I’m washing it out and shoving it in my basement where we keep all the extra boxes and bins from when we moved. We broke down all our moving boxes and stored them down there since we had room and figured we’d move again someday – it’s since compiled a ton more boxes and bins! I was hoping to clean the litter box and downstairs bathroom, but honestly I’m just not feeling like doing the bathroom today, so I’m not going to. I’m calling it done after putting away the crock pots and towels!

Hey everyone, welcome back. I’m Kari and this is Keep It Simple DIY. Today I just need to do a little bit of tidying up around the house. I’ve actually been doing a pretty great job at keeping the house tidy since this guy’s been feeling a whole lot better. So we are just going to do some dishes. I do have some leftovers in the fridge that I need to get in the freezer because we won’t be able to eat them all before they would go bad. And I’m hoping to clean up the litter box and possibly our downstairs bathroom since I did not get to that the other day.
So dishwasher is clean. I am just going to start by emptying it.
I’ve got a ton of jars of chicken there that I canned the other day. Yesterday I took the rings off and double-checked them to see if any didn’t seal, and there were two that didn’t seal, which I’m not surprised because when I took them out of the canner they kind of exploded a little. Not like the glass exploded, but just the liquid came out of the jar, which tells me they were a little bit too full. So those two are in the fridge and the rest are out here for us to clean up.
For the chicken, I like to fill out my sink with some soapy water, and then I will do them all, scrub with a little cloth. I do that because they seem to get greasy if anything is kind of spilled over on them. And I’ve just found that’s easier than trying to wipe them each individually. You know, before I do that, I think I want to go through and clean out this jar, or the canner.
We have quite a bit of leftovers from the other night that I want to get frozen because we only have three rolls left even. So if you didn’t see it, I did make another batch the day after our game night so that we’d have them for our ham and cheese rolls, and then also so we’d have extras. It didn’t take long. How long has it been? Let’s see, it’s been two days since I made that other batch and this is all that’s left.
So we don’t need nearly this much meat. I think I’m going to leave the meatballs for those and put the pork and the sloppy joes in the freezer. But I figured I can get the meatballs in smaller containers and get everything else into a freezer safe container. And I’m also just going to put the cheese, the little bit of cheese that was left over, in with the meatballs. That would be just fine.
I’m going to let those soak for a little bit. They’ve had the food in them for a couple days now, and it’ll just be easier to get them cleaned if I let them soak.
These two are going in the freezer. I like to note on my meals for the freezer with a wet erase marker. It comes off really easily when I take them out. So we have pulled pork in May and sloppy joes. So we inadvertently got ourselves some freezer meals.
Meatballs are gonna go in the fridge. And there was a little bit of potato salad. I put it in a container earlier. It’s almost gone. There’s only like one more serving left.
To the freezer. I’m going to be writing on these jars in Sharpie, and so I just want to give them a head start by wiping the water off the tops. I’ll let them dry completely before I write on them because otherwise the Sharpie doesn’t work. I have done that too many times to count.
I’m also going to dry off these rings because they do seem to get rusty if I let them sit with water on for too long. And by getting them dried off, I can just put them away. That’s one less thing to see out here.
Chicken right here. A few I put up in my overflow area because they didn’t fit. Here’s how my pantry is currently looking. It’s definitely not as full as it could be. I do have a few other projects in mind that I’ll be doing shortly. Let’s see what we can do here with these crock pots.
Did any of you watch my grocery haul, my Walmart grocery haul? Weirdest thing. They left the bin. Nobody came to pick it back up. So I’m going to wash it out and I guess shove it in my basement where we have all the extra boxes and bins. It fits nicely.
I want to shove it in here. Oh good, these are far enough apart for me to be able to shove it with all the rest of the boxes. Okay, box graveyard.
When we moved in, we just broke down all the boxes and put them down here, figuring one day we will move again. And since we had room to store them, we might as well. So that’s what we did. And it’s since compiled a ton more boxes and bins.
Dry enough now.
We are almost done. I just need to get these crock pots put away and then the towels, and I’m going to call it. I’m not going to clean the bathroom today. I just don’t feel like it, so I’m not going to.
We did it. Thank you so much for spending time with me today as we did some cleaning. I’m going to go stick these in the laundry bin. If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe, and I will see you next time. Bye-bye!
